For The Great Barrier Reef….
I will need to know things about you so I can create the best holiday for you. I will want to know:
Have you been to a reef before and where was it?
Your Answer: Maybe no, or yes!
Reply: I will recommend the best locations but I will also show you the differences between locations.
| Fringing Reefs, normally called the Inner Reef: Frankland Island, Green Island, Fitzroy Island and Michaelmas Cay all have fringing reefs. Under water visibility is 3m on a windy day, 5m average and 8m on a day with no wind. Usually you see only small fish. The coral colour is not the best. Great option for families or people who get very sea sick. The boat travel time is 40-50 minutes. | ![]() |
| Outer Reefs, known as Patch Reefs: Moore Reef, Norman Reef, Saxon Reef and Hastings Reef are all outer reefs. Underwater visibility is 10m on a windy day, 15m average and 20m on a day with no wind. Usually you see big fish like the blue/ green coloured Napoleon fish, nemo’s and giant clams. The coral colour is OK. Great for 1st time people travelling to the reef. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes by a fast boat. 1 day to 3 day options are available. | ![]() |
Ribbon Reefs: (Far Northern Outer Reefs.) Agincourt Reef is a ribbon reef. Visibility is 15m on a windy day, 20m averageand 30m on a day with no wind. If you are only going once you should see the best possible! If you have seen good reefs before, go to the best place possible. Only 1 day tours available. Most boats go to 3 different sites. Perfect for diving. Usually you will see giant fish, reef sharks, and turtles. Great colour corals. The boat travel time is 1 hour and 30 minutes. You will need a 1 hour bus transfer to Port Douglas as the boats to the Agincourt Reefs only depart from Port Douglas. |
